We are located by Patreksfjörður in the southern part of Westfjords. The Hnjótur Museum is at Örlygshöfn on the southern side of Patreksfjörður, with the road to Látrabjarg passing through the farmyard at Hnjótur. Nobody should fail to stop by, get to know an interesting history and view interesting museum pieces and, at the same time, enjoy a stay in a picturesque and peaceful environment evocative of the old days.
Tourists who set out to visit us at Hnjótur have two interesting options when coming from the south. They can either take the ferry Baldur from Stykkishólmur, enjoying the view on Breiðafjörður with a stop in Flatey, or drive along wonderful Barðaströnd. Whichever route is chosen, we at the museum are certain that they will come to us pleased and content. After viewing the museum, our visitors have many options to enhance their enjoyment, including Látrabjarg and Rauðisandur. They can then drive over Steingrímsfjarðarheiði back through Ísafjörður and all the other fjords.
The museum is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. The museum is open only in summer from 1 June to 15 September.
The museum may be opened on request at other hours by contacting the museum director, telephone 456 1569 and 456 1514.
