Minjasafn Egils Ólafssonar Hnjóti

Westfjords
An interesting place to travel to and visit

Hangars and aerodromes in the Westfjords

At the air relics museum are two control centres from Patreksfjörður and Þingeyri, and many objects from the centres have been placed within them. Visitors can acquaint themselves with the development of aviation, instruction and diverse information about the history of aviation.

The Russian Antonov aircraft

This is the only aircraft of its kind in a museum in the Nordic countries. The aircraft is a noteworthy piece which all visitors to Hnjótur must see. It was used beyond 1990 in Eastern Europe and has an interesting history.

Surprising variety

At Hnjótur, there are many objects from the first years of aviation in Iceland. There, one can see parts of aviation history which are nowhere else to be seen, for example the roller used in the construction of the Reykjavík airport.

Opening hours

The museum is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. The museum is open only in summer from 1 June to 15 September.
The museum may be opened on request at other hours by contacting the museum director, telephone 456 1569 and 456 1514.
Enquiries can also be e-mailed to museum@hnjotur.is. museum@hnjotur.is
